Cycle and footway geometry file recommendations

  • Avoid gaps in the geometry at pedestrian crossings or other areas where the pedestrians are expected to cross the roadways by filling them with line strings. Mark these sections with the attribute Category value Crossing, for example. There should not be any isolated footway segments close to other footways (for example, footways on the other side of the roadway) without the two being connected at the location where the pedestrians are expected to cross the road to another footway section.
  • Mark the actual footways with another value for the Category attribute: Footway, or Cycleway, for example.
When collecting data, it is important to cross the roads from one footway to another, at the same connection points set as footways in the geometry file, and to avoid crossing the roadways at arbitrary locations.
