Chipsealed road condition data overlay (beta)

The Chipsealed road condition data overlay calculates the road surface condition score of chipsealed roads. The current computer vision model detects slightly worn out overlay as raveling on chipsealed surfaces. As a consequence, the condition values calculated using the default Road surface condition are excessively low.

This data overlay compensates for the model behavior by reducing the weight of raveling detections in the road surface condition score calculation.

Main differences between Chipsealed road condition and Road surface condition:

The deduct value curves for Moderate raveling and Severe raveling are significantly flatter than in the default Road surface condition score.

  • For Moderate raveling, the maximum deduct value is 20 points at 100 % lateral extent (compared to 40 points at 100 % in the default Road surface condition score)
  • For Severe raveling, the maximum deduct value is 50 points at 100 % lateral extent (compared to 100 points at >50 % in the default Road surface condition score)
